This week, OUR team caught up with the up and coming artist Morgan James. She's known for her amazing style, soul, and vocals.
Interview Here:
Me: Hey Morgan! Did you know that you were going to be a singer when you got older?
Morgan: I knew pretty early. I wanted to be a veterinarian most of my childhood--I love animals! But when I found music and theatre (at about 13) and subsequently had no science skills, I was hooked :)
Me: What was your inspiration for the 'Call My Name' Video? It's an amazing video and song. I love it.
Morgan: The treatment was conceived of by director Constellation Jones, and the epic team really fell in love with it!
Me: So, your album is suppose to be released next month right? What was your whole inspiration behind the music on this album.
Morgan: My extended edition of Hunter comes out November 10th! I'm so excited. My collaborator, Doug wamble and I spent almost two years writing and arranging the music. We spent a lot of time trying the music out live, in front of an audience. I co-wrote 9 of the songs, and we have three special covers, as well. I really wanted an album with old school, traditional soul ingredients yet with a modern sensibility. I am so proud of it!
Me: What was your favorite song to record in the studio on this album and what is the meaning behind the song?
Morgan: I can't just pick one! My two favorite songs to record and create were my single, "call my name" (an amazing song by Prince), and "the sweetest sound". Since I sang all my own background vocals on the album, "the sweetest sound" was my favorite to create the pads and choirs. I used dozens of different MJ voices!
Me: What should we expect from this album? Will there be mostly ballets or speeded up songs? Is this a more soulful album?
Morgan: This is a soul record. Eclectic but consistent with my vision. A couple slow jams (my fave), two true ballads, a couple songs to get you on your feet. And, of course, a couple angry break-up songs :)
Me: Okay! What's next for you? Will you be acting? Going on Broadway again? What's next?
Morgan: Next up: I will be focusing on promoting the album, radio and live. You can hear "call my name" on your r&b stations--so keep requesting! I hope to be adding more and more tour dates. I may return to acting when the time and project is right. And I have already started writing the next album! Have to stay creative and focused on the path!
Thank you Morgan!
We love you so much, and can't wait to continue to see you grow. We had such an amazing time interviewing you! We can't wait to purchase the extended version of 'Hunter' on November 10, 2014.
